REMEDIAL MASSAGE
Remedial massage aims to restore optimal muscle function, reduce pain, and improve mobility by addressing the underlying causes of your discomfort. Maggie utilises a range of techniques tailored to your individual needs and conditions.
CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
What
“The term craniosacral refers to the practitioner’s focus on the spinal column, the bones of the head and cranium, and the broad ending structure of the spine, the sacrum…craniosacral practice pays particular attention to the craniosacral rhythm, a slight swelling and contraction of the bones and head, and a rotation around a central axis by the skeleton on each side of the body.”
Why
To release tension in the fascia in the head, spine and sacrum to help reduce pain and improve function of the nervous system.
How
Very light pressure is applied to detect rhythm and assist the flow of cerebral spinal fluid.
FASCIAL SCAR TISSUE TREATMENT
What
“The fascial system consists of the three-dimensional continuum of soft, collagen containing, loose and dense fibrous connective tissues that permeate the body” (The Fascia Research Society”)
Why
To alleviate pain and increase range of motion and function as well as reducing the appearance of scarring.
How
By using gentle soft tissue manipulation techniques as taught by Professor Robert Schleip, Marjorie Brook, Sharon Wheeler and Bruce Stark.
THE PERRIN TECHNIQUE
What
According to the Perrin Technique website:
The Perrin Technique is a manual method that aids the diagnosis and treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome /Myalgic Encephalomyelitis ME/CFS and was developed in 1989 by British osteopath and neuroscientist Dr Raymond Perrin DO Ph.D.
ME/CFS according to Dr Perrin is caused by an accumulation of inflammatory chemicals and other toxic substances in the brain and spinal cord leading to a dysfunction of the sympathetic nervous system of the body which deals with the automatic functions of the body…We know it is vital for healthy lymphatic drainage. In ME/CFS sufferers the sympathetic nervous system will have been placed under stress for many years before the onset of the signs and symptoms. This stress may be of a physical nature due to postural strain or an old injury, it may be emotional, or environmental such as pollution, or it may be due to stress on the immune system due to infection or allergy.
Dr Perrin hypothesised that one final trigger factor, usually a viral infection, leads to a breakdown of the sympathetic nervous system’s control of the lymphatic drainage leading to a reversal of flow of toxins toward the brain and the spinal cord. This produces further dysfunction of normal bodily functions and the disease that we know as ME/CFS.
For anyone interested in a real life story from someone who has had chronic fatigue but come out the other end to achieve amazing things this is a really great listen:
MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
What
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specialised technique used to stimulate the circulation of lymph fluid, reduce swelling, boost immunity and remove waste.
Why
It is effective for reduction of swelling and aiding in post surgical recovery. The immune system and parasympathetic nervous system also benefit making it a great way to relax and detoxify.
How
Use of very light rhythmic strokes that follow the body’s lymphatic pathways to harness the siphon effect this body system is capable of. It moves fluid and waste from congested parts of the system to more functional pathways and nodes.
ORTHO-BIONOMY
What
Ortho-Bionomy is a technique developed by Osteopath Dr Lincoln Pauls. T supports the body’s self correcting capacity through the use of gentle positioning and subtle movements. It is based on the principle that the body is intelligent and self regulating and self healing.
How
By using a very gentle and non-intrusive contact and positioning to help the body to maintain optimal function and balance.
Orthobionomy Australia explains orthobionomy as:
…a gentle, non invasive bodywork therapy that's helpful for many pain and stress conditions. Developed by Canadian osteopath Dr Arthur Lincoln Pauls in the 1970s, Ortho-Bionomy is designed to support the body’s self-correcting capacity through the use of gentle positioning and subtle movements. Ortho-Bionomy offers long-lasting changes by re-educating the body to effectively maintain balance and optimal functioning on its own. Based on the principle that the body is an intelligent self-regulating and self-healing system, this approach uses no force manipulations, painful techniques or deep pressure…
After receiving Ortho-Bionomy sessions, clients report experiencing pain relief, deep relaxation, increased range and ease of movement, feelings of ease and lightness throughout the body, improved postural balance, faster recovery times from injuries, a sense of self empowerment , increased vitality and emotional balance, and an increased sense of wellbeing.
Ortho-Bionomy can help with a wide range of issues from injuries such as whiplash and sprains to back pain, scoliosis or as part of post surgical rehabilitation and even Fibromyalgia.
